The present paper\u00a0analyzes the mediation role of the parents in their children\u2019s education<\/em><\/strong>. It shows a predictive model that includes parental\u00a0education style and their trust in the interactive media for their children\u2019s acquisition of critical cognitive abilities. It also identifies\u00a0the personal and contextual factors that are related to the parental education style.<\/em><\/p>\n

The model was tested on a representative\u00a0sample of 765 families from the Madrid Community selected on the educational level, center type, and district income bases.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It\u00a0was found that\u00a0children\u2019s educational level is the factor of greatest impact on the acquisition of critical abilities<\/strong>. Nevertheless, as\u00a0parents adopt a less restrictive style regarding the uses of Internet, there is a more positive influence on the acquisition of critical\u00a0abilities independently of the age effect. The results question the role of parental restrictions on the use of the interactive media\u00a0to encourage the education of critical citizens.<\/em><\/p>\n
